For this cabi Q&A, we’re interviewing Ramon Suarez! Ramon is the Director of Warehousing here at cabi, which means he’s responsible for getting your orders from our warehouse to your hands (thank you, Ramon!). He makes sure that our warehouse team is working to pull each of your picks, package them, and send them on their way so they can end up in your closet on the double. What would we do without him?
But Ramon is much more than the man behind the boxes. He’s a loving father of three, and a gracious, caring boss to an incredible team. He’s a world traveler, an incredible father, and is always willing to go above and beyond. We won’t give away all his answers—you’ll have to see for yourselves! Juniper: I am so excited today because we are talking with Ramon. Ramon is our Director of Warehousing and is such a bright light here at cabi. Ramon, tell us a little bit about what you do.
Ramon: As you mentioned, I’m the Director of Warehousing. I’ve been with cabi for almost 12 years, and it’s been a fun ride so far.
Juniper: 12 years, wow! Over the time with cabi, what have you loved most about working at cabi?
Ramon: I love the environment, how most of the people get along—actually all of them. We all get along, and we get things done. Especially my team—the ones I spend most of the day with. They’re incredible people. They just love each other. When someone is suffering, everyone suffers. When someone is in need, everybody pitches in to help that person. It’s just such an amazing crew that I’m blessed to work with every day.

Juniper: It is an incredible team. I’ve seen them rally together to celebrate baby showers or birthdays. As you said, when sad things happen, they give love and support to each other. You do have such an incredible team. It just made me think of something else: many other people on your team have been with the company a really long time. That says a lot about you and the environment that you create with your team.
Ramon: Yes, they love cabi, and we get along really well. I’m blessed to work with them, too.
Juniper: What do you do on a day-to-day basis here?
Ramon: My day starts when we receive a product in the warehouse, and we transfer it over to the quality department. When I get those pieces back, everything is basically good to ship to our customers. We pick orders, pack them, and we ship them out via UPS. We expect every shipment to arrive on time, so we can make our customers happy.

Juniper: Ramon and his team are critical in getting our beautiful product into your hands. So, thank you. I know our clients and stylists appreciate you. You have such an incredible team here. Our warehouse is huge, so you manage a lot. You also have three beautiful children. Can you tell us a little bit about them?
Ramon: Yes. My oldest, Solema, is 22 years old. She’s going to be graduating on May 22.
Juniper: Wow.
Ramon: Double major. I’m so proud of her. My second daughter, Roxanne, is going to be graduating high school in the beginning of June. She’s 18. She just got accepted to Yale University on a full scholarship.
Juniper: Full scholarship to Yale.
Ramon: Yes.
Juniper: That is incredible.
Ramon: I’m blessed with her as well. Then, little Matthew who is four and a half. He’s in preschool

Juniper: He is very cute.
Ramon: Thank you.
Juniper: I think he stole some hearts when he came to visit us here at cabi. Quite a beautiful family. I might come get some parenting tips from you later. We would love to just ask you some fun and silly questions to get to know you a little bit better. Can we jump into that?
Ramon: Sure.
Juniper: Coffee or tea?
Ramon: Tea.
Juniper: Oh, tea. Nice. Do you have a favorite kind of tea?
Ramon: Many different ones, but my favorite is jasmine tea.

Juniper: Oh, very soothing.
Ramon: Yes.
Juniper: Do you have a favorite ice cream flavor?
Ramon: Pecan.
Juniper: So good.
Ramon: Just simple. I don’t mix much.
Juniper: Simple but delicious.
Juniper: Is there a movie that makes you laugh or cry every time you watch it?
Ramon: I’m also pretty simple when it comes to that. Mr. Bean movies are the ones that make me cry and laugh. More laughing than crying for sure.
Juniper: Maybe you cry because you’re laughing so hard?
Ramon: Yes.
Juniper: Those are pretty funny. If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Ramon: If I had a superpower, I would like to be a really, really good preacher.

Juniper: That would be a good superpower. What do you do to relieve stress?
Ramon: I play soccer on Sundays on a team, so that’s a good stress reliever.
Juniper: Fun! Do you guys have games? Or is it just kicking it around?
Ramon: No. It’s on a league, and we play to win. I love that.
Juniper: Did you catch that? He said play to win, not just play for fun. Just kidding. Are you reading any good books right now?
Ramon: I recently read the book Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus.

Juniper: Did you learn a lot in that?
Ramon: Yes. I learned how to understand women, so that’s a lot.
Juniper: We’re pretty easy to understand, right ladies? I’m sure your wife appreciated that book.
Ramon: I know that when she says “I don’t have anything to wear,” it really means, “I don’t have anything new to wear.”
Juniper: What was your first job?
Ramon: My first job was when I was 11 years old at a tire shop.
Juniper: Wow.
Ramon: That was in Mexico—obviously not here in the U.S. I was trying to figure out how people trusted me with fixing their tires at 11 years old. It’s just unbelievable.
Juniper: Well, I do think you have a very trustworthy aura about you. That’s something you’ve always had.
Ramon: Thank you.
Juniper: You grew up in Mexico?
Ramon: I was born in the U.S. But when I was two years old, my family moved back to Mexico.
Juniper: Oh, okay.
Ramon: That’s basically how I inherited my first job when I was 11 years old.
Juniper: Nice. How long have you lived in this area?
Ramon: About 32 years now.
Juniper: Who would you love to have dinner with? If you could have dinner with anyone.
Ramon: I would love to have dinner with Nick Vujicic. He’s a preacher and the founder of Life Without Limbs. I would love to have dinner with him. I’ve been to his events, but I would love to have a one-on-one with him.
Juniper: Just to sit down and pick his brain a little bit.
Ramon: Yes. He makes you see life differently—how sometimes we just feel depressed or upset, but he lives without limbs and is happy. He lives comfortably, and he’s enjoying every minute of his life with no limbs. I would love to have dinner with him one day.
Juniper: Awesome. I might like to come to that dinner. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Ramon: The best advice I’ve ever been given was that you have to pick your battles. It has helped me a lot in life—whether it’s with my wife or in general. I think it’s a rule that helps you focus on the things we need to focus on rather than just trying to just do everything our way.
Juniper: That’s good. Is that the advice you try to give to your children as well? Or how do you try to help them go through their lives?
Ramon: The advice I try to give them is that if they work hard, they’ll get rewarded. The reward might not come when they want it to, but it will come if they just keep working hard.

Juniper: You’ve traveled to some places. I see pictures of Fiji on your desk. I know you’ve taken some other cool vacations. But if you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Ramon: I would love to go to Bora Bora, but it’s kind of expensive. It’s out of my budget. And the Maldives Islands. Those look like they’re fun places to be.
Juniper: The little huts that are over the water.
Ramon: Yes.
Juniper: That sounds amazing. I would like to go there, too. But Fiji is not bad.
Ramon: No, Fiji is great too and more affordable for sure.
Juniper: What’s one of your most memorable family vacations?
Ramon: Actually, the Fiji trip was one of my memorable vacations that I did with my wife. It was a really peaceful place, and we really enjoyed our time together there.

Juniper: What’s one thing you can’t live without?
Ramon: Love. I love to be around people. I love to be around my family. I love to be around my coworkers. This is somewhat like my second home. I don’t think I’m a lonely person. I think if I was just by myself somewhere, I wouldn’t be happy.
Juniper: I love that. Love. That’s why you’re also so joyful around the office. We love having you as part of our team. That was such a good answer.
Ramon: Thank you.
Juniper: Do you have any special skills?
Ramon: According to my wife, I have many. I can fix many things around the house. But one of my favorites is to work on cars—not just like regular mechanic work but more like troubleshooting, using technology and tools that you can plug into your car then figure out what is wrong with it. Then, fix the car based on what the computer is telling you.
Juniper: You see? Starting at 11 was good. It set you up for loving to work on cars for your whole life.
Ramon: Yes, I have been around cars my whole life.
Juniper: That’s awesome. Well, that’s definitely a good skill to have it.
Ramon: I’m good at it.
Juniper: Have you taught your daughters about cars? Do they know how to change a tire?
Ramon: No, but I’m planning to actually. That’s one of my goals. I want to train them on doing more than just the basics on cars. I think it’s going to be fun.
Juniper: How do you think your friends would describe you?
Ramon: I think you’d have to ask them. But from what I can tell, they think I’m funny. Sometimes grumpy. But I love to be around them, and I think they love to be around me.
Juniper: I’ve never seen you grumpy.
Ramon: It doesn’t happen a lot.

Juniper: What is a cherished memory that you have?
Ramon: When my first daughter was born. It was something that I was looking forward to. Then, when it happened, it was very unique. Obviously, now I have three, and it’s such a blessing to be the one to take care of them for the rest of my life, teach them many things, and spend time with them. And it’s fun!
Juniper: Okay. When you decided to have another child, your daughters were kind of grown. You just couldn’t get enough of the baby time, huh?
Ramon: It was needed. I needed to have a boy in my family, and I love my son.

Juniper: What’s something that most people don’t know about you?
Ramon: They don’t know that I go to a jail every other weekend.
Juniper: What?
Ramon: In a good way. I haven’t been arrested. I can go in and out any time I want. I go there to preach. We have a ministry that goes and preaches to the inmates. I give them hope and encourage them that they can change their lives. I’ve been able to give them testimony on how my life has been. That if you focus on what’s within your control instead of what’s out of your control, then there is hope, and your life can change.
Juniper: Those are definitely wise words to live by. Let’s see. If your life was a movie, what would the title be?
Ramon: The Blessed. Because I’ve just been blessed all my life. I appreciate what I have. I appreciate what I have done so far. No regrets. I just focus on living every moment of my life and trying to be out there helping others. There’s a joy in that that stays with me.
Juniper: That’s awesome. That’s so cool. And totally unrelated but another little known fact, Ramon was once a stand-in for Kimberly, our President Kimberly, in a video, where she rode a motorcycle.
Ramon: That’s right. I still remember that.
Juniper: Ramon is the ultimate team player. When we said, “Hey, we need someone to ride a motorcycle in a wig and pretend they’re Kimberly,” he was like, “Sure, whatever you need.” That is just who Ramon is. He’s all hands on deck, always ready to help, and always with a smile. Ramon, thank you so much for spending this time with us today. It’s been so fun getting to know you. I definitely learned a lot about you here today, and it was so fun. Thank you.
