connect the dots: how to style polka dot outfits

October 22, 2020

We’ve raved about skin prints, we’ve sung the praises of florals, but today, we’re giving polka dots their time in the spotlight. To say this timeless pattern is a wardrobe essential would be an understatement of epic proportions. Not only does this pattern act as a neutral, pairing easily with virtually anything and everything, but they’re also ideal for print mixing and matching if you’re looking to style with a contrasting pattern.

That’s why we’re head over heels for the Sinatra Skirt and Sinatra Blouse from the Fall 2020 Collection. These pieces feature a black ground with white starry dots throughout. This matching set can be worn together for a maxi-dress effect, or split up and mix-and-matched with other items from the Collection. We partnered with Zia Domic to show you just how versatile these pieces can be. She put together a few irresistibly chic polka dot outfits using the Sinatra pieces and the results will wow you. With this look, I wanted a seamless feel (so it looked like I was wearing a maxi dress instead of a top and skirt), so I added an extra-wide belt with a shiny gold buckle for a luxe look. Knee-high boots and the heart-shaped earrings from the cabi Fall 2020 Collection polished off the look, making it perfect for the office (throw on a blazer) or a night out (topped with a leather jacket).

I love the flow of the Sinatra Skirt—it’s very feminine but it also has a ’90s grunge feel, especially when paired with a plaid camisole and combat boots. I am obsessed with the Stud Belt—it has major “rocker” vibes. And I love how, along with the denim jacket from the Spring 2020 Collection, it gives the look some serious edge.

Featured Items: Dylan Jacket (from Spring ’20), Check Crossover Cami, Sinatra Skirt, Stud Belt

The Sinatra Blouse is frilly, sheer, and perhaps wouldn’t be a first choice for a casual outfit…but combined with some super comfy star-print jeans, a colorful jacket, and (of course) the Stud Belt, you have the perfect look for a coffee date with your bestie or a spin on a scooter with your beau.

Polka dots come in all shapes and sizes—they don’t just have to be teeny, weeny, yellow, and worn poolside! There are so many fun versions of this pattern that you’re sure to find a few you’ll love.
